I have tried both community tab and firefox and it just will not let me download even though I am logged in - thanks so much
Hi Dennis,
Just as an added pointer to the forum's weird behaviour, personal experience tells me that it doesn't actually make any difference whether you use SDS's inbuilt browser or an external one, the result is usually the same, that of the log in page continually recurring. I have had this problem frequently, particularly when I started the "I don't usually do this" thread, although I think you and I on that occasion concluded that it was a time out problem for which I think you were able to adjust it. However, I still believe it is an ongoing problem.
We'll see when I try and post this![]()

Yes, the reason I usually ask this is because internally SDS is using Internet Explorer, which would exhibit possibly different behaviour as compared to any other browser out there. I know there's an update for the forum available, so I'll try installing that on the weekend and maybe it'll help. I'll need to see whether this is a general forum issue or just an SDS' forum issue.
Hi Dennis,
I would venture to say that it was a general forum issue, simply because if I'm not using SDS to access the forum I would be using Chrome and the problem is still prevalent. I haven't tried this using Opera so maybe it would be different. As you've probably gathered, I hate IE with a passion because it is bloated out with stuff that I will never use and it's painfully slow. Chrome is much better and Opera is better still. All that said, the version of IE that is built into SDS isn't actually too bad, maybe because it doesn't have all the bells and whistles attached to it so the browser works better.
Actually what I meant was whether it's the problem with SDS forum (doesn't matter which way it's accessed) or the forum software itself (vBulletin) that is used. I'll need to talk to their support about this.
The version of IE built into SDS is really only just the internal engine of IE, which is still slower than most browsers, but is good enough for community browsing![]()
Ah yes, sorry, I see what you mean.
As for IE itself, if it's only the engine that has been built in to SDS, then that would make it marginally quicker of course as it doesn't have to contend with all the stuff Microsoft have slapped into it. As you say, still not the quickest thing around but sufficient enough to browse and navigate a forum.
Just a post in the hope that (as indicated) I will be able to read down this life factor after posting. Thanks for its creation.
I really could use it too...
