Hi I'm new to the forum and I was just wonderiong how do you edit the pain map? Everytime I try, a message pops up saying that it's read only.

Hi,

You need to open up the editor for that diary entry (edit the diary entry) and that'll let you edit the pain map entries as well.

I've got a running list of suggestions for updates to the software that I wasn't able to submit to GOTD in time yesterday (I don't even think my comment made it to the main thread :( ), but this is as good a place as any to suggest new graphics for the pain maps.
I've got nothing against nudity, but it's distracting for me, an adult, much less my 14 year old son who may be using this software as well, since we both need to keep track of medical symptoms, and I'd like to teach him to manage his disease now rather than later.
A simple androgynous figure would do fine.... I'd even be willing to spend an hour looking for the perfect vector image for you :)

Thanks for the suggestion!

I did have plans to allow the graphics to be replaced, so I might as well push it up the development priority list a bit. If you know of a free-to-use, vector image for both male/female, that'd be great.

I really think this is a BAD idea. One of the first things I thought of when I saw those pictures was they could be a great reminder and tool for cancer self-examining, checking for skin changes, lumps. Men and women should do this and an androgynous figure would make marking suspect spots very difficult.

Is the human figure really so distracting? C'mon, even if you giggle today, if you look at that picture for five days I suspect the novelty will have worn off for both you and your son.

Just to clarify on my point - I will not be replacing existing graphics, there will simply be a choice to use other graphics ;)

Ah I'd support that! Be sort of neat to have a picture that resembles yourself.

Yep, to take that further you could actually photo yourself, size it correctly and put it in :)

I'll agree with you on half of your post.... in moderation.
I am not prude by any means, I just think little less detail is needed for MY own purposes. You're suggesting that areas of the body that need to be examined routinely should be available. I agree. However it's not necessary for my female model to have pubic hair, especially if I want to mark where that snake bit me on my labia ;)

I used the wrong word when I wrote "androgynous". What I meant was less detailed. Hair of any kind is unnecessary; I can't mark that contusion I suffered in that boating accident I had last weekend.

As long as we're making suggestions for this portion of the software, how about adding:
*side views
*top view
*ability to pan and zoom
*ability to choose the skin tone of the individual

With regards to the 14 year old boy thing? We're talking about a kid I've had to lock down my computer because of ANIME (yes, cartoons! I know, right??) porn... and I am just making a suggestion about what's really necessary for me and mine....not for you :)

Thanks for listening to ALL of our suggestions.. they're all valuable.

The current graphics have been hand drawn based on a graphic from an anatomical atlas by a designer (I have close to zero graphical ability myself).

Ideally, I'd prefer to find some freely available, non-copyrighted, images that I can just resize and allow users of SDS to use. Otherwise it becomes a costly process of drawing up new ones again. Either way, this is a good suggestion and it'll take form in a future update.

The other ideas are great too - this has all been considered before as well and I'm glad that there's more interest in this now, so that means to me that it should be implemented :) The ability to choose a skin tone will automatically come from being able to choose your own graphic, so you can use MS-Paint or whatever else to touch it up any way you want ;) There has been discussion of being able to zoom in on parts of the body and I think that's great too.

There are two ways that I see that zooming can be implemented - either it's a real zoom into the graphic that you have (which will make it a low-quality look, since pixels can't be stretched nicely of course) or having additional graphics to represent certain section of the body in more detail and then bringing up those as separate graphics on top of the main body when needed. Or, actually having a large graphic with lots of detail, that would normally be zoomed down and then it could be zoomed into without losing quality or detail.

Side and top views are great as well. The top view is probably mostly relevant for the head though?

I anticipated the discussion about zooming method right after I posted and thought about editing in the idea of having additional graphics available on an "as clicked" basis.

I suggested vector because with that image type there's no need to worry about filling in missing pixels... vectors resize smoothly.
If you're not into graphics at all then I would say that, as of right now, a pan and zoom option of the type I'm thinking about (like looking at a brand new mobile phone @ your carrier's site) isn't something that would be in the near future, at least if you're doing all of this on your own.
I'd be completely satisfied with six full views - front and back, both sides, and top and bottom, the last two ideally being 3D rendered like you currently have as models. That's the only way I can see being able to target a specific area on the top side or underside with any detail.

Yes, I was referring to top view because of the head. Might not seem relevant to some, but in cases of skin conditions it would be great to track progress.

Bottom of the feet would be fantastic for people with diabetes.

Drawing on my really limited knowledge of html that I've used to code with before, I'd say having multiple views of closeups of different parts of the body (versus a full on zoom and pan function) would be fine. It would just be a little bit more time spent dropping in the links to the image files. Of course I could be full of it since I've got no idea how you did all this :P

What about implementing flash?

Yes, vector graphics resize nicely, provided the technical implementation is coded first :)

Frankly, I'll need to do some research and give this a bit more thought before I can provide a more meaningful answer at this point. I perfectly understand your ideas and they corellate greatly with what I have in mind as well (based on previous feedback) - so, it's more of a technical question at the moment. Let me get back to you on this in a few days.
