I think in this day and age of cheap flash cards, portability for a diary is a must.

It would be nice if SDS was portable, wrote no entries to the registry and had all operational files in it's own folder and not installed anything in widdows. Naturally, it saved all settings in its own ini file - therefore portable.

Any thoughts?

Thank you for the suggestion!

The short answer - yes, it's possible

But it would require some reworking and possibly cause some things not to function (i.e., it might need to be a "limited" version with some functionality omitted).

At the moment, SDS4 has all of it's operational files in it's folder and won't install anything into Windows. However, it does make use of the registry and it does need to "register" some DLLs, so an installer is needed. This could be overcome, by registering those DLLs from within SDS4 itself (if required) and registry doesn't need to be used as well.

It's an interesting thought and once SDS4 is released, I will consider what it would take to implement this more closely.

I'm glad to announce that a "portable" version of Smart Diary Suite 4 that works on USB flash drives will be developed shortly and it will allow you to take your data and use it on any machine.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
